History Built around eighteen fifty for the landed gentry, Statham Lodge was at the centre of a large estate of farms and properties scattered around Northern Cheshire. Over the centuries it passed through the hands of various family members; ministers of the church and state, politicians, courtiers, gentlemen farmers, commanders of regiments, lawyers and magistrates until it was eventually sold by the trustees of the estate to its present owners, the Walker family, in 1962. For a number of years it was run successfully as a gambling Casino, Country Club and French restaurant by its new owners, becoming a focal point for night life, entertainment and good food. However, fears that gangsters intended taking over gambling in Britain led to the cancellation of gaming licenses held outside the easily patrolled city centres. The Gaming Club became a Hotel with Conference and Banqueting facilities and has continued to this day to be run under the same management and ownership. This Georgian Manor House, as with many old buildings is rumored to have not one, but two residential ghosts.
